Aeolus
Description of the machine

The Aeolus Spiral Overroller is capable of overrolling rods with homo genized tobacco leaf in a spiral way at high speeds. The rods enter at the right side of the machine, either coming straight out of a rodmaker or from the Aeolus infeed unit. The rods are then continuously wrapped by the use of servodriven crossbelts. After wrapping the products are cut and handed over to the downstream machine by a servodriven spider linkup.

Possible Machine Configurations

There are many different types of spirally wrapped products, and therefore different configurations are needed to make the different types of products.

The most basic product is the plain spirally wrapped rod. For this configuration a rodmaker is needed (please see the Ares Rodmaker information, and the Eris Rodmaker information for the best combinations).
This can be any rodmaker capable of running double length rods, with homogenized tobacco binder and threshed
tobacco filler (applicable for the entire EU as of January 1st 2008). The rodmaker is placed directly in front of the Aeolus spiral overroller. Connected downstream of the Aeolus, should be the Icarus
machine. The Icarus takes care of finishing the product. For spirally wrapped products with a filter, the filter must be overrolled as well as per January 1st 2008.

The line can be split into two sections: the first is the section where a double length rod with a filter in the middle is made (Ares Rodmaker linked to a Max 80-3 filter attachment machine with double length outfeed). The second section is the spiral wrapping section where the mass flow double length filtered products are fed to the Aeolus machine by means of the SCM Infeed-unit. There are several ways to link the two sections together, either by a double length flexi-link, or by a direct mass-flow with a limited buffer capacity. The double length flexilink consists of a trayfiller and tray unloader, both adapted to double length homogenized tobacco leaf products.Iit is also possible to only place a separate freestanding spiwrapping line.

A third product line is a product with a spiral wrap, a headshape and then a plastic mouthpiece (tip) placed over the headshape. This line consists of the Ares rodmaker, linked to the Aeolus spiral overroller, which is then linked to the Orion headshaper. The spirally wrapped, double length headshaped products are then massflowed to one or two SCM Minervus Tip Attachment machines. The Minervus attaches the plastic tips on both ends overthe headshaped products, and then the products are cut in the middle and merged to a single length mass flow output. Please see the separate information on the Minervus Tip Attachment machines as well as the information on the Orion- Headshaper.
